Dalton State Senior Captain Lucas de Soza played his final home games Wednesday against Tennessee Wesleyan.
The No. 17 Dalton State men’s tennis team came from behind Wednesday to knock-off No. 21 Tennessee Wesleyan 5-4 at the Lakeshore Park Tennis Center.
The Roadrunners team of Adam Hornby and Joe Bray was the lone victors in doubles.
1. Ezequiel Gils and Federico Staksrud (TW) defeated Sebastian Dartnell and Jose Ruda (DC), 9-7.
2. Jacob Dorey and Jamie Llardo (TW) defeated Nikilay Nikiforov and Lucas de Souza (DS), 8-6.
3. Hornby and Bray (DS) Pancho Gallardo and Gad Azulay (TW), 8-4
Dalton State had to win four of the six singles to win the match.
1. Gills (TW) defeated Hornby (DS), 6-4, 6-4.
2. Nikiforov (DS) defeated Staksrud (TW), 6-4. 2-6, 6-2.
3. Ruda (DS) defeated Dorey (TW), 7-5, 6-3.
4. Llardo (TW) defeated Bray (DS), 3-6, 6-1, 6-1.
5. Dartnell DS) defeated Gallardo, 5-7, 6-3, 6-2.
6. Souza (DS) defeated William Jones (TW), 6-4, 6-2.
“The guys got a touch win against a motivated and nationally ranked Tennessee Wesleyan team,” said Coach Zach Rogers. “After coming out of doubles down 2-1, we had to fight for every singles line. It was the last home game for team captain Lucas de Souza and the guys wanted to make sure they sent him out with a win.”
