Homes In East Ridge Evacuated Wednesday Morning Due To Gas Leak

Several homes were evacuated on Wednesday morning in East Ridge, due to a gas leak.

At approximately 10:29 a.m., the East Ridge Fire and Police responded to the area of South Terrace and Wando Drive on a reported smell of natural gas.

East Ridge fire arrived and found a contractor for the Chattanooga Gas Company who was doing maintenance. The contractor advised that while doing maintenance he had caused a leak in the natural gas line. The line was approximately two inches in size.

East Ridge Fire and Police took precautionary measures and evacuated houses that were close to the leak.

The Chattanooga Gas Company was called to stop and repair the leak.

No injuries were reported.
