City officials said the lake in East Lake Park is getting a makeover.
The lake will be drained with soil and plants removed.
The lake will then be restocked.
Officials said steps will also be taken to remediate the flow above and below the lake.
Two educational structures will be built providing environmental education about the steam, lake and the cleanup.
Design is due to begin this spring and be carried out over a two-year period.
The Lyndhurst Foundation will provide $200,000 and the city $400,000 for the project.
East Lake Park was among the city's first parks and at one time had its own zoo.
