A former city police officer who was earlier given a suspended three-year sentence after pleading guilty to aggravated statutory rape is back in jail.

Chad Edward Bradley was arrested Nov. 11 on a charge of public intoxication.

As a result, his probation officer is recommending that his probation be revoked and that he be held without bond.

An officer said he was driving in the 1000 block of Central Avenue when he noticed an individual lying beneath an overhang of a building. He said he checked the man (Bradley) and smelled the odor of an intoxicant coming from him.

He said Bradley stated that he had consumed three 40-ounce beers an hour earlier.

He was taken to jail after performing poorly on field tests.

Bradley had pleaded guilty in May to retaliation against a judge. He got a suspended two-year term and was placed on an alcohol treatment program in Jackson, Tn.

Bradley also earlier pleaded guilty to statutory rape in Meigs County and got a two-year sentence there. He served 30 days in jail in Meigs County. The cases involved sex with the same 17-year-old girl as the Hamilton County case.

Bradley testified that he met the girl while working a second job at the Bluff View Art District. He said she and other girls were dancing around and he checked them to see if they might be intoxicated. He said afterward they came up to him and began talking. He said that led him to begin seeing the Meigs County girl. He said she looked like she might be in her 20s. Bradley was 35 at the time.

Bradley was terminated from the police department after the sex charge in 2009. He had been a city officer since 2000.
