Jordan Smith
Lee University’s Jordan Smith is indeed number one after his rendition of the inspirational “Great Is Thy Faithfulness” on Monday’s top 12 episode of NBC’s The Voice vaulted to the top spot on the overall i-Tunes rankings early Tuesday morning.
The senior from Harlan, Kentucky overtook Adele’s “Hello” for the honor after he mesmerized The Voice judges and the audience with his performance of the Sela song which was made even more poignant following Friday’s attacks in Paris. Smith is coached by Adam Levine but fellow coach Pharrell Williams urged the viewers to download the song after he received a standing ovation from all four coaches and the studio audience.
Smith has dominated the ninth season of The Voice. Last week his cover of Beyonce’s “Halo” peaked at number three and his blind audition performance of Sia’s “Chandelier” has been viewed nearly 17 million times. The top 11 will be announced tonight but Smith is a virtual lock to advance as votes are multiplied by 10 for artists who reach the overall i-Tunes top 10.
Smith is the second Lee student to excel on a reality series this year as alumnus Clark Beckham was the runner-up on season 14 of American Idol which concluded in May.
Calhoun’s Ellie Lawrence was among the top 24 Voice artists but was eliminated last week. She will be live tweeting on @WRCB ‘s Twitter page tonight during the results show starting at 8pm ET.
