BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee now offers a new challenge-based online community, InSpire, to encourage and motivate people to improve their overall well-being.
Powered by the Chattanooga-based Spire digital platform, InSpire connects members in a social network designed to offer positive reinforcement and rewards for progress. After logging in to the BlueAccess online member portal and registering, members can access the InSpire community via the free smartphone app. The free app integrates with a number of fitness trackers including Apple Health Kit, Google Fit, Fitbit, Nike Fuel, Jawbone and others.
Upon joining the community, members receive points each day for sharing news about their latest health efforts.
These points are meant to be given away to encourage others who are sharing milestones on the journey to wellness. The more active members are on the InSpire network, the more points they have to give away. Depending on the plan, these points received from other members can be ‘cashed in’ for useful items such as water bottles and yoga mats.
“InSpire enables members to share their successes and find the encouragement to establish and maintain positive life habits,” said Missy Brumlow, marketing product manager for BlueCross. “It’s one part of our overall BlueHealth Solutions suite of wellness offerings.”
“The right support can make all the difference in motivating people to continue healthy activities,” said Tina Mathur, director of health and wellness product strategy. “This program gives members an extra incentive to make choices that will benefit their overall well-being.”
InSpire is currently available to large-group and self-funded BlueCross accounts. Companies with access to the expanded version of InSpire become part of a customized experience with internal teams who challenge each other to participate in fitness activities or wellness efforts such as healthy eating.
Depending on the package chosen by the employer, members may also have access to expanded health resources and analytics.
