Daniel Ray Clayton
Daniel Ray Clayton, 28, who led police in an extended car chase up Signal Mountain and into Sequatchie County was arrested after crashing into a police cruiser and attempting to flee again on foot.
The arresting officer observed a green Chevy Blazer on Monday morning but was unable to get it on radar and the tag showed him it was unregistered. After stopping the vehicle on the 700 block of 27 northbound, he approached and saw a white male in the driver seat.
However, before he could speak with the driver, he floored the gas and fled at a high rate of speed.
The resulting car chase lasted 31 minutes and led police through Chattanooga, up Signal Mountain and into Sequatchie before Dunlap police were able to spike strip the road ahead of Clayton.
After going over the spike strip, he continued to drive with a flat front tire. A Sequatchie County car attempted to get beside the suspect to stop him from turning, but Clayton turned into the officer’s car and caused them to both crash.
Clayton then bailed from the still moving vehicle and fled into the woods on foot.
He was found hiding in a van off of Rabbit Farm Road, but refused to exit the vehicle when asked at gunpoint. Officers then pulled him from the van and detained him, despite his attempts to fight several officers.
