Louise Collins
Louise W. Collins, 94, died on January 4, 2015 at her residence.
She retired from Chattanooga Public Schools after 35 years of service. Her hobbies included cooking and fishing.
She was a former member of Second St. James Missionary Baptist Church and later joined New Vernon Grove Baptist Church where she served faithfully until her illness.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Phillip Collins; parents, Solomon and Nannie Couch Worthy; sister, Mattie Benson, brothers, Frank Worthy and Eddie Worthy; daughter-in-law, Nancy J. Collins.
Survivors include her daughter, Ophelia C. McClain, Chattanooga; son, David Collins, Chattanooga; grandsons, Rickey V. (Diane) Winston, Austell, Ga.; Phillip E. McClain, Chattanooga; David (Maria) Collins, Jr., San Diego, CA; granddaughters, Yolanda (Hailie Westfield) Collins, Chattanooga; Monica Collins-Asberry, Veronica Collins, all of Chattanooga; 23 great-grandchildren; 38 great-great-grandchildren; aunt, Dorothy Cooper; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends; special friends, Jewell Cousins and Fannie Hicks.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, Jan. 12, at noon at New Vernon Grove Baptist Church, with Pastor Harris Toney officiating. Interment will be in Highland Memorial Gardens.
The body will lie in state after noon on Sunday, Jan. 11, and the family will receive friends from 6–7 p.m. at John P. Franklin Funeral Home, 1101 Dodds Ave., 622-9995.
