  • Monday, January 5, 2015

A home was damaged by fire in the Dallas Bay area on Monday.

According to fire officials, a 911 call was made at 6:30 p.m. reporting a kitchen fire at 1009 Kenny Way. The Dallas Bay Volunteer Fire Department responded and reported smoke and fire in the kitchen. Firefighters worked quickly to contain the fire to the kitchen.

Dallas Bay VFD Chief Markus Fritts reported three teenagers were home cooking hush puppies on the stove when the eye of the stove caught fire. One of the teenagers threw water on the grease fire trying to extinguish it, but the water spread the fire to the cabinets and curtains.

No injuries were reported, but Hamilton County EMS was on the scene for any potential injuries to the firefighters.

Damages are listed at $10,000.

The American Red Cross responded to provide temporary housing for the family.
