Jury Duty Scam Reported In Walker County

  • Monday, April 28, 2014

Walker County Sheriff Steve Wilson is warning citizens of a current scam being executed in Walker County involving jury duty summons.

The caller will advise the victim that he or she has failed to show up for jury duty and as a result, they are in very big trouble.  The caller will then instruct the victim to go purchase a prepaid credit card with a substantial amount of funds.

After the card is purchased, the victim is advised to call the suspect back and give all the credit card information to him over the phone to cover cost of fines and fees.

Sheriff Wilson cautions the public that neither the Sheriff’s Office nor the Clerk’s Office will ever telephone a citizen with these type of instructions.

If you have been the victim or target of a jury duty scam, call Walker County E 911 dispatch at 706-375-7810.  A deputy will be dispatched to your home or business.
