Former Kindergarten Teacher Held Active Civic Career

Sarah Holt Loder Hipp, 96, a lifelong resident of Chattanooga died on Friday, February 14, 2014.  

She was the daughter of the late Thomas Rudd and Hardie Holt Loder.  A graduate of Chattanooga City High School and the University of Chattanooga where she was a member of Phi Mu Sorority.  She taught kindergarten at Missionary Ridge Elementary School and served as the director of kindergarten at Central Presbyterian Church.  Following her teaching career she was active with Gil and Curt Florist.  Her civic career included the Kosmos Women’s Club, Pilot Club, Little Theater and the Chattanooga Symphony.  She was president of the Pilot Club of Chattanooga and held numerous offices at the district and international level.  She was a longtime Methodist and current member of First Centenary United Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by her brother, Thomas Rudd Loder, Jr. of Huntsville, Alabama and son-in-law, Fount Love of Signal Mountain, Tennessee.

She is survived by her daughter, Sarah Hipp Love, Signal Mountain, two grandchildren, Jeff (Heather) Love, Atlanta, and Melissa (Paul) Snyder, Signal Mtn., three great-grandchildren, Jackson Love, Daniel and Kaylee Snyder; sister-in-law, Elizabeth “Libby” Loder, Huntsville, Al.; niece, Virginia “Ginger” Loder, Huntsville, Al.; nephew, Thomas “Tommy” Rudd Loder, II., Centre, Al.

Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 17, in Chattanooga Memorial Park with the Rev. David Harr officiating.  Honorary Pallbearers will be current and former members of the Pilot Club.  

There will be no visitation at the funeral home. 

The family would like to express their gratitude and thanks to her many friends and special caregivers who loved her.

Arrangements are by the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, Crematory & Florist, 5401 Highway 153.
