Living historians will represent historical military units associated with the battlefield. On three September days in 1863 two titanic armies struggled in the fields and forests of northwest Georgia in what is known as the Battle of Chickamauga, however this was not the first nor the last time the soil of the region would feel the tread of soldier’s boots. Hundreds of Cherokee Indians traveled up the LaFayette Road during Indian Removal and U.S. Volunteers trained for the Spanish American War, World War I, and World War II on Chickamauga Battlefield. On this Veterans Day weekend, the public can come to the park and learn from living historians about the military history of Chickamauga Battlefield.
