Locomotive 4501 To Be Highlight Of Fall Steam Excursions

Tennessee Valley Railroad Offers Fall Foliage Trips

  • Wednesday, October 1, 2014

The Tennessee Valley Railroad announced Wednesday the use of the restored Locomotive 4501 on several steam excursions during the fall season. The 4501 will be used for Fall Steam Specials on Oct. 4, 11, 18-19, 25-26 and Nov.  1.  In addition, 4501 will be used in combination with Locomotive 630 for a "double-header" excursion to Summerville, Ga. on Nov. 8.  This will be a special excursion featuring both engines working in tandem for the entire trip.

"This is the first time in 25 years we have had two steam locomotives operational," said Steve Freer, spokesperson for TVRM.  "It truly is a rare event for one historical railroad to have two steam engines they can use for excursions, especially when they are both over 100 years old.  These excursions are selling out fast and are a great addition to our Hiwassee River Rail Adventure and Copperhill Special trips we offer this time of year."

The 4501 led Summerville Steam Special tickets are available for purchase online, including the "double-header" steam trip with prices starting at $73 per person.
