Jewel Allen McFarland, 70,  died on Thursday, August 1, 2013.  

She was born in Port Arthur, TX, on Sept. 17, 1942, to the late Walter and Lucille Allen. Jewel married Dr. Bob McFarland on March 4, 1961. She was a blessing as she supported her husband in his ministry endeavors for over 50 years. She was deeply loved and appreciated by the multitude of people that she touched as she served her Lord and Savior.  

Jewel received a degree in Theology from Tennessee Temple Schools, a Bachelor of Religious Education from Covington Theological Seminary and a Masters of Religious Education from Covington Theological Seminary. 

She served as a pastor’s wife for 19 years with Bob’s last pastorate being at First Baptist Church, Whitwell. She served with husband Bob, executive director at Bethel Bible Village for 12 years and over her tenure at Bethel she was a house mother to 25 boys for four years.

Jewel was a member of Abba’s House in Hixson. She taught third through fifth grade Sunday School and she was a faithful choir member at numerous churches throughout their ministry.

Her volunteer endeavors included AAA Women’s Service, Chattanooga, for six years as a counselor and in My Baby and Me Program; Oakwood Baptist Church for three years, Sonshine Ministry to shut ins; Covington Seminary, Fort Oglethorpe, as a study guide proof reader, faculty advisor and English professor. Her favorite pursuit was being a Precept Bible Study student for over 25 years.

She is survived by her loving husband of 52 years, Dr.  Bob McFarland; five children, Stephen Ray McFarland of Athens, AL; David Manley (Madaline) McFarland of Soddy Daisy; Rebecca Lee  (Toby) McFarland Robinson of West Frankfort, IL; JoAnna Keay (Andy) McFarland Roberson of Greenwood, SC, and Daniel William (Hope) McFarland of Anna, IL; and 16 grandchildren.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Sunday, Aug. 4, at 3:30 p.m. at Abba’s House in Hixson, with Dr. Ron Phillips and Reverend Ronnie Phillips officiating. Interment will be in Hamilton Memorial Gardens Cemetery.  

The family will receive friends on Saturday, Aug. 3, from 5-8 p.m., and on Sunday, Aug. from 2:30-3:30 p.m. at Abba’s House in Hixson.
