Fire Damages Bus In East Ridge

  • Monday, August 19, 2013

The East Ridge Fire Department was dispatched to a report of an unoccupied school bus on fire at 5:07 p.m. on Sunday.

Firefighters arrived at 5816 Ringgold Road within three minutes and found heavy fire showing from the engine compartment of an unoccupied school bus. The bus was on the lot of a U-Haul facility and located approximately 10 to 15 feet from a propane tank. East Ridge firefighters attacked the fire with a 1 ¾-hand line and extinguished it. The propane tank was also cooled.

There were reports of an explosion prior to ERFD arrival and another explosion upon their arrival. The explosions were determined to be the two front tires of the bus exploding due to the fire. The bus is owned by Quality Drive, a company out of Goshen, IN, and it was being transported from a repair facility in Resaca, GA. There were no injuries.
