District Attorney From Illinois Dies In Truck Crash At Wildwood, Ga.

  • Sunday, December 29, 2013

The district attorney for Hancock County, Ill., died in a single vehicle accident on Georgia Highway 299 at Wildwood, Ga., late Saturday night.

Authorities said 53-year-old James Drozdz from Hamilton, Ill., also drove a truck for Dot Foods.

He crashed the tractor-trailer he was driving around 11:15 p.m. at the eastbound entrance ramp to I-24.

The Georgia State Patrol said he tried to make a left turn on the entrance ramp, but the four-wheeler left the roadway and struck an embankment.

He had served as the county’s state’s attorney since defeating an incumbent in November 2004. He was unopposed in 2008 and 2012.
