A man who was shot during an apparent robbery at the Highway 58 Bi-Lo parking lot on Wednesday has been taken into custody.

Galen Lawayne Allen Jr., 26, is charged with attempted first-degree murder, aggravated robbery, aggravated assault and tampering with evidence.

Police said he initially was in critical condition.

The other robber, Calvin Ward, a juvenile, was shot and killed.

Police said the shooter will not be charged.

Jaden Archer, 35, said he had arranged a meeting with an unknown black male to purchase four Microsoft tablets for $1,000.

He said the man he had arranged to meet pulled a gun on him. He said a fight broke out and the robber tried to pull him out of the vehicle. He said he was eventually knocked down while trying to fight for his life.

The victim, who is a lawful gun owner and carrier, said he was able to retrieve his firearm and get off a shot at the robber.

He said the second man, Allen, entered a gray van and obtained a black revolver. He said he fired into the driver's side window and saw the window shatter. The van then fled the scene.

The van was later located near the dead end of Inn Brook Lane. There was blood on the driver's seat along with a shattered front driver's window.

Allen went to Erlanger Hospital with a gunshot wound to his left upper back.

He was found to be in possession of car keys belonging to a Honda Odyssey.

A check stub was recovered from the bag belonging to the dead robber that was addressed to Allen.
