Jeff Morelock announced his candidacy for re-election in 2014 to the Bradley County Commission from the third district.

Mr. Morelock said, “It has been my pleasure to serve all the citizens of Bradley County and especially the citizens of the third district  during my first term.  The Bradley County Commission has had many challenges during this term. I have studied most of the more important issues and cast  votes that I felt were in the best overall interests of  Bradley County citizens. One of the more pressing issues before the commission now is what to do about replacing portions of Lake Forest School with a new academic building. If I am fortunate enough to be re-elected, I will continue to strongly support the effort to get Lake Forest a new academic building. Right now animal control is a major issue before both the city council and the county commission. I would hope and work for a joint animal shelter probably run by a qualified nonprofit organization where the animals are given proper care and treated humanely and at a price that taxpayers can afford.

“We cannot stop growth nor do I think we want to, but I would like to see growth coordinated among the various interest groups where we can maintain our way of life in Bradley County. We want new industry to provide jobs for our young people (we also want our young people educated so they can qualify for these new jobs and education is expensive) but we must remember that this growth requires new school capacity,  enhanced roads, and more fire and police services. Maintaining a pristine environment especially in our rural areas is important to all of us whether we live in the city or county.”

The major committees of the county commission on which Mr. Morelock serves are education and finance. He said, “Since the primary function or duty of the commission is to serve as funding body, finance is one of the more active committees. I have learned much about county finances and plan to continue to learn more.”

In addition to serving on the commission, Mr. Morelock is active in other community activities. He serves on the foundation board at Cleveland State Community College, having served as chairman in the past.   He is on the board of the Boys and Girls Club of Cleveland, having served in past as chief volunteer officer. He is on the board of Habitat for Humanity of Cleveland and is involved in its current fundraising drive. He is on the board and currently serves as board chairman of Bradley Initiative for Church and Community (BICC). Mr. Morelock is also past chairman of the Bradley Cleveland Chamber of Commerce and and past president of the board of directors of the Cleveland Bradley Business Incubator.

Commissioner Morelock is a 1964 graduate of Bradley High School and a 1969 graduate of the University of Georgia. He served in the U.S. Army from 1969 until 1971. He is married to Kathy and is the father of Kate Kerley and Davis Morelock and proud grandfather of Emma Ann Morelock,  Lillie Kerley and Jefferson Morelock.

Commissioner Morelock said, "I ask for your vote again in 2014 for one of two seats on the Bradley County Commission from the third district."
