A large barn fire caused significant damage to a farmer's feeding supply for his cattle on Monday in Sale Creek.
A neighbor called 911 reporting a barn fire at 14322 Back Valley Road. The Sale Creek Volunteer Fire Department responded and reported several hundred bales of hay were fully involved with fire. The Sale Creek Volunteer Fire Department immediately requested a mutual aid response for additional apparatus and manpower. The Soddy Daisy Fire Department and Dallas Bay Volunteer Fire Department responded.
Firefighters worked quickly to contain the fire, which meant using back hoes to pull hay on fire out of the barn and extinguishing them with water.
Don Fuller, the property owner, said he had 400 bales of hay in the barn valued at $12,000. Other items damaged in the fire included a 2013 John Deere tractor, a round baler, a square baler and the barn. The total amount was $54,000.
No injuries were reported, but Hamilton County EMS was on the scene for any potential injuries.
The cause of the fire is undetermined and will be under investigation by the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office. Mr. Fuller did not have insurance. He also mentioned he may have to sell his cattle because he does not have any hay to feed them.
