Woman Seriously Injured In 2nd Norris Lake Boating Accident

  • Friday, July 6, 2012

A passenger onboard a rented pontoon boat was seriously injured when she fell overboard and was apparently struck by the boats propeller. The accident occurred on the Lost Creek area of Norris Lake near Sharps Chapel.

TWRA Officer Rick Roberts reported that on Thursday, at approximately 2:55 p.m., a woman was riding near the front of an open pontoon boat when she fell overboard and was apparently struck by the engine’s lower unit.  She was rescued onto the boat and taken to the shore near Lost Creek Campground where emergency medical personnel transported her via helicopter to the University of Tennessee Medical Center in Knoxville.  She received serious propeller cut injuries and is in stable condition.

TWRA officers seized the vessel and are further investigating the accident.  Any potential charges will be coordinated through the Attorney General’s Office.
