Briggs Smith, 53, of Chattanooga, died on July 23, 2012.

Briggs was a lifelong resident of Chattanooga and was the son of the late Charles and Clyde Smith.  He was a 1977 graduate of East Ridge High School.  He graduated from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville and received his Masters Degree from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga in Administration and Education.  He was a teacher in the Bradley County School System and served as director of Career and Technical Education in Bradley County.  He then became director of Career and Technical Education for Hamilton County Schools.  He was recognized as Chattanooga’s Father of the Year, Teacher of The Year for Bradley County Schools and most recently the Skills USA Administrator of the Year.  Briggs was an active member of ChristWay Community Church.     

Briggs was married to Martishia “Marti” Smith for 30 years and is survived by his daughters, Katie Lynn Smith, Sarah Leigh Smith and Katy Gibson all of Chattanooga;  brothers, David (Joyce) Smith of Charleston, SC, and Paul (Karen) Smith of Flintstone, GA;  aunt and uncle, Judy (Richard) Boulter; several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 4-7 p.m. on Thursday, July 26, and 9-11 a.m. on Friday, July 27, at ChristWay Community Church, 6201 Mountain View Road, Ooltewah, TN 37363.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, July 27, at ChristWay Community Church with the Reverend John Waters officiating.  Burial will follow in Hamilton Memorial Gardens with Mike Brumlow, Roy Davis, Jerry Finley, Scott Powell, Paul Smith and Harold Thrower serving as pallbearers.  Honorary pallbearers will be Phil McAfee and Roy Vincent.
