The “Sarah Project” is a new program developed by the Partnership’s elder Services designed to provide Safety and Resources and Help (SARAH) for victims of elder abuse in Hamilton County ages 50 and above.
A two-day training for law enforcement is being held at the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office West Annex to assist agencies in how to identify victims of elder abuse. The training also covers the dynamics of abuse, interview techniques, environmental indicators as well as evidence collection. Assistant District Attorney Bill Hall will talk about the role of the District Attorney’s Office in the prosecution aspect of elder abuse. The dates for the training are March 27, 28, at the Sheriff’s West Annex Training room.
It is estimated that as many as two million Americans over the age of 65 have been victims of abuse. Most cases go unreported out of fear and shame because the perpetrators are often family members, friends or professionals entrusted with the care of the victim.
