Volunteers Needed In Chattanooga To Assist Others In Preparing Tax Returns

  • Tuesday, December 4, 2012
With the 2013 tax filing season fast approaching, the Internal Revenue Service and the Urban League of Greater Chattanooga are looking for volunteers to help others by preparing federal income tax returns for free.
"Volunteers are certified to prepare simple tax returns for people whose incomes are $50,000 or less," said Val Palmer, Urban League Tax Program coordinator. "People of all ages and backgrounds are welcome to volunteer."
Volunteers generally study online to obtain their volunteer certification, but classroom training may also be available.
Once certified, volunteers spend as little as three to four hours per week volunteering between the months of February and April.
To volunteer, contact vpalmer@ulchatt.net or call 423 756-1762, ext. 19.
Last year, nearly 99,000 Americans volunteered to provide free tax services through IRS tax help programs. More information is available at www.IRS.gov, keywords Tax Volunteer.
