McCallie Self-Reports Eligibility Violation, Will Forfeit Football Game

  • Friday, October 26, 2012
McCallie School announced today it will forfeit its September 7 football victory against Tyner Academy due to a self-reported TSSAA rules violation, according to Athletics Director C.R. Simmons.

A current McCallie freshman participated in several plays during the fourth quarter of the game, which McCallie won 43-14. It was later discovered that this player had participated on another school's varsity basketball team in 2011-12 as an eighth-grader, thereby making him ineligible according to TSSAA rules, Simmons said.

"We are very thorough and make every effort to adhere to TSSAA rules," Mr.
Simmons explained. "In this instance, unfortunately, the unusual circumstances created a situation we failed to catch until after the fact. Once we were able to verify it, we felt our only course of action was to report the violation to the TSSAA and forfeit the game."

The TSSAA rules involved are located in Article II under Section 8, and Article III, Section 12.
