Jay Neal finally defeated Rep. Mike Snow in Georgia's 1st House District, and Republican Martin Scott won over Sadie Morgan for the open 2nd District House seat in Tuesday's election.
In totals from Catoosa and Walker counties, Mr. Neal won 8,657 to 7,233.
In totals from Dade and Walker counties, Mr. Scott had 10,142 and Ms. Morgan 4,473. Both are from Rossville. The seat was formerly held by Brian Joyce of Lookout Mountain, who did not run again after serving 12 years.
In Catoosa County, Phil Summers won a new term for sheriff and Bill Clark was selected County Commission chairman. Sandra Self won tax commissioner and Coroner Vanita Hullander was also re-elected.

In Walker County, Carolyn Walker won another term for tax commissioner, defeating Republican Jim Powell 11,263 to 6,808.
Bill McDaniel defeated challenger Alan Painter 8,353 to 6,690 for Superior Court Clerk.
For Walker County School Board, Jim Smith beat Eddie Upshaw 9,666 to 6,613 in Post 1. Mike Carruth beat Jack Mayo 9,996 to 6,088 in Post 3. Phyllis Hunter defeated Jerry Durham 10,037 to 6,221 in Post 5.
In Dade County, there will be a runoff Nov. 23 between Allan Bradford and Libertarian Ben Brandon. Totals Tuesday were Bradford 2,429, Brandon 2,001. Former County Manager Jason Ford got 1,586.
Winning County Commission seats were David Young, Lamar Lowery, Scottie Pittman and Sarah Moore.
Democrat Patrick Cannon, who had upset veteran Sheriff Phil Street in the primary, won the sheriff's election over Carlton Stallings. The 31-year-old Cannon got 60 percent of the vote.
