Nashville — The Tennessee Young Democrats held their semiannual state convention at the Vanderbilt Marriott on Saturday, and elected Chris Anderson of Hamilton County as state president for the next two years.
Representatives from YD groups attended from across the state. Officers were elected and awards were presented, as well as other usual convention business and activities.
The TYD president also holds a seat on the Tennessee Democratic Party Executive Committee.
Lindsay Barrett, president of the Hamilton County Young Democrats, was awarded Young Democrat of the Year. Ms. Barrett was also appointed to the position of National Committeewoman in Mr. Anderson’s administration.
Mr. Anderson and Ms. Barrett will be responsible for representing Tennessee at all Young Democrats of America (national) functions as well as casting two of Tennessee’s three votes at each quarterly YDA meeting.
U.S. Rep. Lincoln Davis was the featured speaker for the event. Attendees also heard from Tennessee Democratic Party Chairman Randy Button, political consultant John Rowley, and actor David Keith, famed for his roles in “An Officer and a Gentleman” and “U-571”.
