An unknown Civil War soldier unearthed on Missionary Ridge in 1999 was reburied at the Confederate Cemetery Saturday morning.

On Friday night, the solfier was memorialized in a ceremony attended by about 80 people - including many wearing Civil War blue and gray - at Christ Church Episcopal.

Some came from as far away as Wisconsin, Ohio and Indiana for the two rites.

The body of the soldier was taken from the church in a horse-drawn caisson to the cemetery near UTC.

The memorial service was conducted by the Rev. Jocelyn Bell, rector of Christ Church; the Rev. Clay Seneker, pastor of Ascension Lutheran Church; and the Rev. John Sims of Lutheran Services of Tennessee. They followed Army regulations from the Civil War era.

Hymns included "Onward Christian Soldiers" and "Amazing Grace."

Lane Funeral Home provided a gray coffin.
