Susanna Smith with her 4-H art poster, an Eastern Region State Winner in the 2020 4-H Art Poster Contest

In 2020, Hamilton County 4-H Club member Susanna Smith created a poster for the annual 4-H Art Poster contest. Each year, thousands of students across the state of Tennessee compete in this
contest. The best posters in each county make their way to the regional contest, and the winners at the regional level go on to the state 4-H Art Poster contest. The ten best entries in the state are posted online at the state 4-H website.

Susanna’s poster, “4-H is My Jam,” was one of two posters in the eastern region to be chosen as best in the state.

The 2021 4-H Art Poster contest is now open, and all Hamilton County youth in grades fourth-12th are invited to send in their best poster creations by Feb. 22 for the chance to win rosettes and $25 cash prizes.

This year 4-H has added a new digital division, and posters created using computer software will be judged separately from those drawn on the traditional 14 x 22 poster board. Digitally created entries can be emailed to HamiltonCounty4H@tennessee.edu in either pdf or png format. Youth can send in entries in both the digital and the traditional poster contests for two chances to win.

Complete contest details are available by visiting Hamilton.Tennessee.edu, the website of the UT/TSU Extension Hamilton County office, and clicking on the 4-H art poster – Susanna’s design.

For more information, call the Extension office at 423-855-6113. Youth in grades fourth-12th can join Hamilton County 4-H athttps://tiny.utk.edu/join4H. There is no cost to join 4-H or to enter the contests, and youth can join at any time.
