Erlanger Southeast Regional Stroke Center Recognized As Advanced Primary Stroke Center

Thursday, August 09, 2012

By demonstrating compliance with The Joint Commission‘s national standards for health care quality and safety, Erlanger Southeast Regional Stroke Center is once again recognized by The Joint Commission as an Advanced Primary Stroke Center.

The Erlanger Southeast Regional Stroke Center is Southeast Tennessee's first and only accredited Advanced Primary Stroke Center.

Through this recertification, The Joint Commission recognizes that the Erlanger stroke care program follows national standards and guidelines that can significantly improve outcomes for stroke patients.

"It takes a team of committed healthcare professionals to continue to receive The Joint Commission Advanced Primary Stroke Center recertification year after year,” says Pat Joly, neuroscience service line administrator at Erlanger.  “We are proud of our team and the quality care provided to stroke patients every day here at Erlanger."

Stroke is the third leading cause of death nationally, and Chattanooga is located deep in the heart of the "stroke belt" of the U.S. with one of the highest incidences of stroke anywhere in the country. The stroke team at Erlanger has created a regional stroke system, in which patients are brought to Erlanger by helicopter or ambulance to receive emergency evaluation by stroke specialists.

The Joint Commission conducted an on-site evaluation to assure Erlanger’s dedication in complying with The Joint Commission’s state-of-the-art standards on a continuous basis. Achievement of certification signifies that the services provided have the critical elements to achieve long-term success in improving outcomes. It is the best signal to a community that the quality care you provide is effectively managed to meet the unique and specialized needs of stroke patients.
