Judge David Norton Thanks Supporters

Tuesday, August 07, 2012

Now that the dust has settled from the August 2 election (for most of us, at least), I want to convey my heartfelt thanks to all those who supported my bid for the Sessions Court seat I assumed after Judge Bob Moon’s untimely death last winter. I can never say too many times how honored I was to receive and accept that appointment.

Never could I have foreseen what an unusual campaign mine would be. Midway through the summer, you might say I became conspicuous by my absence.

A health condition that had long been dormant reared itself suddenly and surprised me by persisting much longer than I would ever have expected. I found myself having to take an extended leave from the bench as well as from the public eye, missing numerous events considered crucial to one who runs for public office.

As the campaign season continued to unfold, however, I was humbled by the many, many friends who continued to step forward, working for my election and/or contributing financially to my campaign. On Election Day, I was further humbled by the roughly ten thousand fellow citizens who gave me their vote.

In closing, I commend my excellent fellow candidates for a clean and civil race. I congratulate Gary Starnes on a successful campaign and wish him well in Sessions Court. That said, I set my sights on what comes next for me. First on the agenda is continuing the medical treatment that will enable me to pursue life as actively as I am accustomed.

Judge David W. Norton

I first thought of it as just another boring, elevator music attempt by a former HippyChic to pump up her ... (click for more)

Roy Exum: 50 Facts About Our Bodies

Maybe 20 years ago I became entranced by a book called “Fearfully and Wonderfully Made.” It was co-authored by a surgeon, Paul Brand, and a Christian writer, Phillip Yancey, and gave one specific after another about the human body and how only God could have created such a miraculous machine. Today the book is a classic and I have marveled ever since over how unbelievable human ... (click for more)
