The Greg Vital campaign said Friday it will seek a recount in the District 10 state Senate race.
Mr. Vital stated, “Election day results had us behind by only 16 votes out of almost 16,000 cast, or 1/10 of 1 percent. This percentage is well under the threshold of what most states consider to be an automatic recount.
”Provisional ballots in both Hamilton and Bradley County will not be opened until Monday.
In addition to these ballots, there has been some question to the margin of error in election day and early voting ballot totals.
“The public wants to be certain that all the votes are in and that there has been no error in ballot totals, and I’m sure my opponent wants to be sure as well. This is an exciting race that isn’t over. I am thankful to see the outpouring of support from voters all over the 10th District.”
State officials listed Todd Gardenhire with a 15-vote advantage in the GOP primary.
On Friday morning, Hamilton County election officials said 25 Gardenhire votes in the Eastdale precinct had not been counted - apparently moving his lead to 40 votes over Mr. Vital.
