Meet Local Beekeeper Eddie McKenzie At 212 Market Restaurant Aug. 28

Tuesday, August 21, 2012

212 Market Restaurant will host its latest “Meet the Farmer” party on Tuesday, Aug. 28, featuring Eddie McKenzie of Sale Creek Honey. The event will feature free honey tastings and appetizers, as well as a chance to look at beekeeping equipment and a trivia quiz. A selection of half price wines by the bottle and by the glass will be available.

Mr. McKenzie practices sustainable beekeeping and does not use any synthetic chemicals or antibiotics to maintain his hives. He also keeps his bees out of flight range of farms to avoid exposure to pesticides.

Sale Creek Honey currently has sourwood honey available for sale. This is one of the rarest honeys in the U.S. and recognized as one of the best. According to Slow Food USA, the scarcity of sourwood honey is due to the small growing region, few trees, and short blooming season; however, “If the honey is produced with the expertise of a skilled beekeeper, the taste has no parallel.”

212 Market Restaurant features locally-sourced foods on its seasonal and daily menus and is proud to introduce its suppliers to the public.

The event starts at 5:30 p.m. and is free of charge. For more information, visit 212market.com.

Roy Exum: Hypocrisy And Horses

I am still wincing over the fact a horrendous bill passed in the state legislature that would make whistle-blowers into criminals would have actually gone into law had it not been for Governor Bill Haslam’s eleventh-hour veto. Called the “Ag-Gag bill,” similar efforts in other states have also soured because it is no more than a Catch-22 trick to protect those who abuse animals, ... (click for more)
