County Schools On 5th Day Top 42,000 Students; Gain 454 From Last Year

The Hamilton County Schools, based on the fifth day of school, have topped 42,000 students.

The total of 42,013 is 454 more than last year's fifth-day numbers.

County school enrollment has seen a steady rise over the past several years. It was at 40,450 on the fifth day in 2009-2010 and at 40,949 the next year. Fifth-day enrollment last year was 41,559.

The biggest gain is in the elementary schools - 249.

Middle school enrollment is up by 68 and high school by 137.

There were an additional 1,658 students counted since the opening day of school.

The increase from first day to fifth day was 826 for the elementary schools, 386 for the middle schools and 446 for the high schools.
