Neighbors Have Concerns On 2 North Chattanooga Single-Family Home Projects

Monday, August 13, 2012

Neighbors had concerns at the Planning Commission meeting Monday on two Craftsman-style house projects planned in North Chattanooga.

Alan Haniszewski said he had built similar homes on Jefferson Street in South Chattanooga.

He was seeking to maximize building sites on Druid Lane and Worthington Avenue.

The request on Druid Lane was to create seven lots at a site that now has five lots, and on Worthington Avenue four lots where there are now three parcels.

Neighbors said Druid Lane is a dead end street and is essentially a one-lane road.

There were concerns about runoff from red clay soil that has been trucked into the site to fill a hole at the Worthington site. Several residents of Hanover said they had gotten inches of the red clay in their backyards during recent downpours. Mr. Haniszewski said steps are being taken to curb the runoff.

It was decided to defer the cases for a month and have the developer meet with residents.

Don Moon, Planning Commission member, said, "It is inexcusable to have your mud run off on another lot."

The developer said he already has clearance to build homes on Tucker Street and that work will start next week.
