The Master Gardeners of Hamilton County and the Friends of the Chattanooga Public Library invite the public to the unveiling of their new landscape design for the Chattanooga Public Library - Downtown, Thursday, Aug. 23, at 6 p.m. in the Downtown Library auditorium.
The Master Gardeners formed a special Library Design Team to prepare the landscape plan earlier this year. This group is composed of a builder and seasoned landscaper, two Master Gardener board members whose area of expertise is color and design, a horticulturist from the Chattanooga Area Food Bank, and an agricultural agent whose expertise is in disease and pest problems.
In May, the Master Gardeners planted six large planters with a variety of shrubs and flowers, all placed outside library entrance doors. Due to summer weather conditions, further planting will continue in October. The upcoming presentation will show the next phases of the project, focusing on the flower bed in front of the building and landscape designs for the overall grounds.
“We are excited to see our plan become a reality. Beautiful landscaping will enhance the outside of the library at a time when amazing things are happening inside,” explains Carol Mathews, president of the Master Gardeners of Hamilton County.
Anyone interested in participating in this on-going project are welcome. Library garden volunteers will be led by two library staff members and a library board member, who are all Master Gardeners. For more information, call 757-5310.
