Ron Powers Thanks Voters, Supporters And Candidates

Friday, August 10, 2012

I want to express my sincere thanks and gratitude to each of the voters of Hamilton County who voted for me for General Sessions Court judge.  Your vote, prayers and support during our campaign are most appreciated.  My family and I met so many wonderful people and made many new friends over the last few months.  This was my first political endeavor, and it was indeed a privilege and a very rewarding experience to travel around our county and have the opportunity to meet many of the fine citizens of Hamilton County and discuss the Sessions Court judgeship and issues of concern to you.

It was always refreshing when I encountered people who asked questions and wanted to learn more about what a Sessions Court judge does and the kinds of cases that the court hears.  I enjoyed the opportunity to share with people about what our Sessions Court judges do and to answer questions about the work of the court.

I appreciate and am grateful for the efforts of our many supporters and volunteers for their prayers, hard work, time and dedication to the “Powers for the People” Campaign.  Thank you for your commitment and support of our campaign.  It was very encouraging to have many people join our efforts and offer to help with our campaign along the way.  We had a successful campaign in many ways even though we did not win the election.

Although I’ve spoken with Gary Starnes and congratulated him on his victory, I want to congratulate Gary and his supporters publicly for their hard earned win and wish Gary well in his role as judge.  Anytime you have seven candidates vying for a seat, the win is well earned.

Thank you to each of my opponents for running a respectful and positive campaign.  It was refreshing to have such a cordial race for Sessions Court judge among the seven candidates.  It was a pleasure to be part of a race that was conducted without the candidates attacking each other.  That is the manner in which we wish all political campaigns were conducted so that the voters can focus on each candidate’s qualifications, experience and background and the issues in the campaign.

Being a political newcomer and running a campaign for a county-wide office, I have learned much about the process involved in such a campaign, and I have an even greater respect and admiration for anyone who is willing to run for public office.  It was truly an enjoyable and enlightening experience.

Questionable Moc Coaching Choices - And Response (2)

David Blackburn proved that he rolled an elder vice chancellor to hire Will Wade. I can't find one game Wade coached. Should we think he is a better coach than the Georgia coach that won the SEC? At least four jobs were open in and around Wade's hometown, Nashville. No one mentioned his name. While Blackburn was preaching in the Chattanoogan Room about the fairness of the ... Clowns - And Response (3)

Back in 1973 Stephen Sondheim wrote a song for a Broadway play he titled Send in The Clowns. It subsequently became popular fare for many artists including Frank Sinatra, Shirley Bassey and others, becoming a popular hit, twice, for '60's activist and protester Judy Collins. I first thought of it as just another boring, elevator music attempt by a former HippyChic to pump up her ... (click for more)

Officials in the Sheriff's Department said a warrant was not obtained early Saturday morning to go inside a house where over 20 allegedly beer-drinking teens were partying because a magistrate said he was about to get off duty and wouldn't wait over. Notre Dame Falls In State Soccer Tournament

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. -- After scoring a goal 15 minutes into Tuesday’s TSSAA Class A/AA soccer quarterfinal and holding that lead for the next 23 minutes, Notre Dame felt good about its chances of advancing to the state semifinals. Two plays from White House’s Luis Vital prevented the Irish from doing so. The sophomore scored the equalizer two minutes before halftime, and in ... (click for more)
