Local Artist Selected For Statewide "Best Of Craft" Exhibition

Kem Alexander will represent Chattanooga, in The Best of Tennessee Craft: The 2012 TACA Biennial opening Aug. 24, at the Tennessee State Museum (TSM) in Nashville. 

The Tennessee Association of Craft Artists (TACA) presents the juried exhibition to provide public visibility and recognition for the quality and diversity of craft found throughout the state. TACA’s Executive Director Teri Alea, said, “Every biennial is an opportunity to spotlight not only the best Tennessee craft, but a unique part of our culture. By nourishing artists’ passion and honoring their work, TACA will showcase the living legacy of Tennessee craft.” As one of 64 artists selected to participate in the prestigious show, Alexander masterfully contributes to this legacy.

Visit the exhibition to see Alexander’s work entitled Saving the Best for Last Wing Nut Lady Boots~ and High Heel Lady Shoes~ These sculptural concrete works are embellished with various metals. 

Alexander's work will appear alongside TACA’s private collection featuring the work of master artists, Akira Blount, Olen Bryant, Sylvia Hyman, and Newberry & Sons. 

The highly-anticipated show will be open to the public from Aug. 24 to Oct. 21, (open Tuesday-Sunday). Join TACA, TSM, and the Girl Scouts for a family-friendly event, “Celebrating Tennessee Craft” on Saturday, Aug. 25. Visitors of all ages will enjoy craft demonstrations from Biennial artists and hands-on activities led by the Girl Scouts who are celebrating their 100th anniversary this year. Visitors may also attend a public reception on Sept. 29, honoring all Biennial artists as Martha Connell, juror for the Biennial, awards the “Best in Show.”


Holiday Schedule Announced For Dalton-Whitfield Solid Waste Authority

Four Dalton-Whitfield Solid Waste Authority facilities will be closed on Monday, in observance of Memorial Day.  Locations include the Old Dixie Landfill and Convenience Center, McGaughey Chapel Convenience Center, Westside Convenience Center, and the M.L. City Council Ad Hoc Committee To Study Moving Elections To August, Adding More Districts, Staggering Terms
