Two motorcyclists were killed in two separate accidents Sunday night and early Monday morning.
The victims have been identified as 24-year-old Brent Taylor and 57-year-old Terry Yates, who retired from the Chattanooga Police Department in 2004 with over 25 years of service.
The Chattanooga Police Traffic Division responded at 11:30 p.m. to a multiple-vehicle accident with a fatality at 7800 I-24. Witnesses said a motorcycle traveling eastbound on I-24 was attempting to pass a tractor trailer on the left side.
The motorcycle clipped the rear of another vehicle that was in the left lane while attempting the pass. This caused the motorcycle to crash and threw the rider of the motorcycle under a tractor trailer. The tractor trailer ran over the body of the motorcycle rider.
Mr. Taylor, the rider of the motorcycle, was pronounced dead by responding medics.
No charges have been filed and the investigation of the accident is continuing.
In the second accident, on Monday at 12:08 a.m., the Chattanooga Police Traffic Division responded to a multiple-vehicle accident with a fatality. Witnesses stated that a motorcycle traveling northbound on Highway 153 was attempting to pass a tractor trailer.
The motorcycle clipped the tractor trailer on the left while attempting the pass. This caused the motorcycle to crash and left the driver lying in the left lane. The driver of another vehicle did not see the motorcycle rider lying in the roadway and ran over the body of the motorcycle rider. Mr. Yates, the rider of the motorcycle, was pronounced dead by responding medics.
No charges have been filed and the investigation of the accident is continuing.
