Remember The 1st Amendment

Sunday, July 29, 2012

"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances."

It always amazes me that liberals only believe in the 1st amendment when it is their views and beliefs that are being expressed. Mr. Cathy expressed his views on homosexual relationships as a citizen and business owner.

He (Mr. Cathy) has the same 1st amendment rights as any other individual in our country and can express those views and run his business any way he wants to.

I might add that Mr. Cathy’s views as a Christian are well supported by the Bible. The biblical principles of Christianity are very plane when you read them. It does not support homosexuality.Genesis: 1:27So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.Genesis: 2:24 Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh.Leviticus 18:22Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is abomination .Leviticus 20:13 If a man also lie with mankind, as he lieth with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination: they shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them. Mr. Cathy simply stated his beliefs and has a right to do so.

Religious views aside, why is it okay for the founder of Amazon.com Mr. Bezos to voice his views and put his money into supporting gay marriage but the same consideration is not given to Mr. Cathy when he supports the institution of marriage between a man and a woman?

What if a conservative mayor made the statement that because Mr. Bezos supports gay marriage that his business (Amazon.com) was not wanted in his town?

Conservative or liberal, it does not matter if you support one side or the other the fact still remains that our constitution allows for the freedom of speech and the right to pursue happiness regardless of what another person’s views are. The KKK, Black Panthers, Islamic radicals and many other groups have spouted hatred for years but guess what, our constitution allows for freedom of speech so we must allow it. Our politicians need to recognize and support the freedom of speech and stop bashing people for what they believe in.If you don’t like Mr. Cathy’s or Mr. Bezos’s views then don’t patronize their business. it’s just that simple.

Roy Exum: So How Am I Really Doing?

I’ve gotten hundreds of jokes since Tuesday when I wrote about feeling a little puny lately and expressing my belief that laughter is the best medicine. After breaking some bones in my arm as I slept last week and having no idea there were already some other fractures, it looked pretty certain I had a case of “The Big C.” I’ve always felt that stands for “courage” but the medical ...
