David Luther Davenport, 52, Fort Oglethorpe, died on Friday, July 27, 2012, in a local hospital.  

He was a lifelong resident of the Chattanooga, North Georgia area and of the Baptist faith. David co-owned and operated T.H.E. Road Service with his wife, Daisy, for 25 years. For the last seven years, he worked for the city of Fort Oglethorpe.  David enjoyed fishing, playing banjo, bluegrass music, family, racing, and shooting at the range in his free time.  

He was preceded in death by his parents, Katherine Jewell Davenport and Donald Davenport.

Survivors are his wife of 30 years, Daisy Davenport, son, Wes Howard and Beth Lyles of Fort Oglethorpe, Michael Howard of Rossville, daughter, Angela and Ricky McDaniel, of Fort Oglethorpe, five grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. 

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, July 31 in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Steve Brannon officiating.  Interment will be in Hamilton Memorial Gardens.

A Chattanooga man was stabbed to death after an argument on Friday night.
