Motorist Spots Garage On Fire; Alerts Sale Creek Residents

Wednesday, July 18, 2012

A motorist helped save a Sale Creek resident and his two great-grandsons from a fire that was burning in his garage.

The motorist told homeowner William Fryar about the blaze. Mr. Fryar immediately got his two great-grandsons (ages 6 and 8) out of the house. At 5 p.m.

911 communications received a call from the motorist and reported a garage fire at 313 Lee Pike. The Sale Creek Volunteer Fire Department responded and arrived on the scene confirming the garage fully involved with structure endangerment.

Firefighters worked quickly to extinguish the fire and keep the fire from spreading to Mr. Fryar's home.

Mr. Fryar reported he was home watching TV with the great-grandsons when they heard something popping nearby but assumed the sounds were coming from the storm that rolled through about 4:30 p.m. Moments later, the motorist informed them to get out of the house. The cause of the fire is undetermined and will be under investigation by the Hamilton County Sheriff's office.

Mr. Fryar used his garage as a workshop and had several pieces of machinery inside that were destroyed by the fire. Mr. Fryar was unable to put a value on the damages to the garage contents.

No injuries were reported, but Hamilton County EMS was on the scene for any potential injuries to the firefighters. Mr. Fryar expressed his sincere thanks and gratitude to the Sale Creek firefighters for saving his house.
