The Young Women's Leadership Academy Foundation (YWLAF), the founding sponsor of the Chattanooga Girls Leadership Academy (CGLA), announced the appointment of Dr. Elaine Swafford as the new director of the school.
"As a proven passionate leader, Dr. Swafford has the experience and commitment to take CGLA to the highest level of success," said Sue Anne Wells, co-founder of CGLA and board chair of YWLAF. "Her compassion for children of poverty, her passion for providing innovative educational opportunities to girls and young women and her understanding of the importance of taking risks make her the ideal leader of Chattanooga Girls Leadership Academy.
"
Dr. Swafford received her Ed.D in Educational Leadership and has most recently served as vice president of student affairs at Chattanooga State Community College where she served as a member of the president's cabinet and executive staff. Before Chattanooga State, Dr. Swafford was both an area superintendent for the Hamilton County Schools and the executive principal at Howard School. Dr. Swafford has served on many boards like the Chattanooga Chamber of Commerce, Goodwill Industries and the YMCA.
"I am excited to lead a committed team of students, families, teachers and volunteers in bettering the lives of young women in Chattanooga," said Dr. Swafford. "As I understand, 100 percent of donations to YWLAF go to fund the school. I look forward to working with the board of directors, staff, volunteers and many supporters of CGLA, and I encourage anyone embracing innovation in education to visit the school. I look forward to leading these young women toward a successful future and a life filled with purpose and numerous career opportunities."
