CARTA Plans 20 Percent Rise In Bus Fares
Free Shuttle Could Be Trimmed If Funding Is Not Adequate CARTA Executive Director Tom Dugan said Thursday the transit agency plans to raise bus fares by 20 percent. Despite that added income, he said CARTA needs significantly higher support from the city and county. He said if cutting services becomes necessary that the free downtown electric shuttle would be a likely target. Mr. Dugan said, "I have put 15 years of my life into the shuttle, but it is more of a luxury." CARTA was among the agencies appearing before the City Council and County Commission at budget hearings. CARTA ... ![]() Woman Charged With Filing False Report On Nickajack Road "Rape" A Lookout Mountain, Ga., woman was arrested and booked at the Walker County Jail on Thursday afternoon for filing a false police report on April 25, when she claimed she had been raped at gunpoint on Nickajack Road. Walker County Sheriff Steve Wilson said detectives charged 23-year-old Crystal N. Snider with one count of false report of a crime. Ms. Snider was released from jail on bond and will appear in Walker County State Court on June 7.
