24-Year-Old New Orleans Man Shot And Killed
Body Found On Guild Trail Not Far From Evacuee Center
posted September 18, 2005

A 24-year-old New Orleans man was shot and killed Saturday, Chattanooga Police said.

The body of Don Maurice Airline was found in the 4500 block of Guild Trail. That is in St. Elmo near the foot of Lookout Mountain - less than a mile from where New Orleans evacuees from Hurricane Katrina are being sheltered at the South Chattanooga Recreation Center.

Police were informed by a passerby that a body was lying on the side of Guild Trail.

The body was spotted around 7:45 a.m. Saturday.

Arriving police officers found a man lying face down with what appeared to be a gunshot wound to the head.

The victim had initially stayed at the South Chattanooga center, then he got a room at suites near Hamilton Place.

Ralph Freeman is the lead detective on the case.

It is the city’s 15th homicide of the year.
