Say No To The Toll Bridge - And Response
posted November 7, 2009

Re: Cobb Says New Study Shows Toll Bridge May Be Feasible
"The state of Tennessee needs to build a toll bridge because there’s not the money in that area for a regular bridge," Rep. Cobb said.

I don’t understand why there is “no money in that area for a regular bridge.”

There is approximately 43 cents per gallon tax on each and every gallon of gasoline and diesel fuel sold in the State of Tennessee. That tax money is supposed to be used to repair, improve, and build roads, highways and bridges.

Can you even imagine how much money that comes out to be in a years time?

Why is there no money then to build this bridge? We pay enough taxes already.

Say no to a toll bridge and instead use the gasoline tax for what it is collected for, to build this bridge. This is just another way to add yet another tax burden on us.

Enough is enough. Stop taxing us to death and make government become fiscally accountable with our hard earned money.

Tina Davis (and everyone else who feels the same way) can say no to the proposed toll bridge by not using it. The toll is only taken from those who actually use the bridge, unlike your gas tax money that may pay for a bridge in Dyer County that you will never see. I

think a user fee is the most equitable funding source any government could utilize. The only concern I have is whether there are enough users in the first place.
