The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga History Department and the Chattanooga History Center will co-host The Southeast Tennessee District Competition of National History Day Saturday, February 27, 2010 at the University Center at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.
The competition is open to students, grades 3 – 12, in Bradley, Franklin, Grundy, Hamilton, Marion, Polk, and Sequatchie Counties. There is no entry fee, but it is very important that students preregister online. Unregistered projects will not be accepted. Teachers set up the registration, which the students then complete.
The 2010 contest theme is “Innovation in History: Impact and Change.”
Students in grades 3 – 5 may enter in the exhibits category only, and they will not be eligible to advance to the state competition.
Students in grades 6 – 12 will compete, individually and in groups, in these categories: papers, performance, documentary, exhibits, and web site design.
Projects placing in the first, second and third places in each division will advance to the Tennessee State History Day competition in Nashville on April 17, 2010, and those placing in the first, second and third places in each division in Nashville will advance to the National History Day competition at the University of Maryland, in College Park, MD in mid June, 2010.
