Police Say Fight, Shooting At IHOP, Not Bud's Sports Bar
posted November 3, 2009

Police said a fight on Oct. 30 that ended with shots being fired was not at Bud's Sports Bar as police originally said, but at the IHOP on Brainerd Road.

The location of the incident was 5707 Brainerd Road.

Upon their arrival, officers talked with William Arthur Smith, 21, of Chattanooga, who said he and friends were eating when a young black male came to their table and started an argument. He said he was not acquainted with the man.

He said the argument spilled over into the parking lot, and it turned into a fight.

Smith was struck by an unknown object in the back of the head. It caused a minor laceration.

He and other witnesses said the suspect then produced a handgun and fired four shots wildly. The suspect then fled the scene in a 1980s-model Buick Century.

The victim could not provide any other suspect information "due to his level of intoxication."

No arrest has been made in the incident.
