Longtime Interpreter For The Deaf In Chattanooga

Mary Jane "MurMur" Pendley, 73, of East Ridge, died on Monday, November 2, 2009.

Mrs. Pendley was a member of East Ridge Baptist Church, where she served as the minister to the Deaf and Silent Workers Sunday School Class.

She was employed as an interpreter at Orange Grove School, Sorenson Video Relay Services, and Lead Interpreter at Chattanooga State for 25 years.

She graduated from Central High School Class of 1954 and was a member of Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf and CODA (Children of Deaf Adults).

She was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas L. Duke.

Survivors include her husband of 54 years and first grade sweetheart, Slater (Mac) Pendley; daughters, Tonya (Andy) Mullins and Dessa (Eddie) Hall; sons, Leon and Keith Pendley; grandchildren, Zach Lane, Travis Mavity, Kevin Hall, Amber Mullins Jones, Jerrica Pendley, Drew Mullins, Slater Pendley, and Emily Pendley; great-grandchildren, Julie Ann Mavity and Emma Jane Hall; step-great-grandchild, Nolan Carter; sisters, Iva Sue (Gary) Tallent of Rossville, GA and Kay Clara (Roy) White of Bozeman, Montana; and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to East Ridge Baptist Church Building Fund, 4201 Ringgold Road, East Ridge, Tn. 37412.

Visitation will be from 2-8 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 5, at the funeral home.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 6, at East Ridge Baptist Church Activities Center with Dr. Ronnie Mitchell and the Rev. C. Henry Preston officiating. Burial will follow at Lakewood Memorial Gardens East.

Arrangements are by the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, Crematory, and Florist, 404 South Moore Road.
