Central Library Hosts Film-Making Conference For Teens
posted November 2, 2009

Central Library will host a conference for teens, ages 12-18, about young adult library programming and making short films. The conference will take place on Saturday, Nov. 14, at 2 p.m. and will be the kick-off event for the library’s upcoming teen video project.

The workshop will focus on developing, writing and planning the film. Philip Luckey, a professional video producer, will be on hand to lead the workshop. Mr. Luckey has created the Community Communication Project in order to use various media outlets (such as film, theater, dance and music) to enhance conversation and bring people together. The teen video project will aid in this effort by focusing on one of our community’s most vital resources - the library.

“Members of TAB, the library’s Teen Advisory Board, came up with the idea to make a short film to help promote the many events and opportunities for teens at the library,” said Shelley Headrick, TAB Staff Coordinator. “The video will be a way to highlight teen programming, but just as importantly, invite more teens to become involved with the library. This is a wonderful chance for teens to learn many exciting skills, including filming, editing, producing, acting and directing.”

“After the workshop, teens will choose which aspects of the project to participate in. Throughout the winter, times will be set up, while accommodating the participants’ schedules, for the various production groups to meet. The project will be ongoing until the video is complete. In the end, there will be a ‘world premier’ of the film for family and friends to attend. The video will be available on the Internet with plans to promote it throughout the community,” concluded Headrick.

Teens who are interested in the project, but cannot attend the workshop, may contact the library for further information. Contact Shelley Headrick at headrick_s@lib.chattanooga.gov or Lee Hope at hope_l@lib.chattanooga.gov or call 757-5314 for details.
