Sheriff Releases Results From Governor's Highway Safety Office Grant

The Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office released the statistics compiled from Project A.I.D.E. (Alcohol and Impaired Drivers Enforcement). This is the grant that the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office received through the Governors Highway Safety Office for 2008-2009.

There were six sobriety checkpoints that were announced and conducted under the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office Policy and Procedure, which meets the standards passed down by the United States Supreme Court.

The School Resource Officers presented numerous alcohol awareness presentations within the Hamilton County School system. Also the patrol deputies checked businesses who sell alcohol in an attempt to prevent the selling of alcoholic beverages to minors.

A total of 51 driving under the influence arrests were made and 197 arrests for driving on suspended license. Ninety-one were arrested for driving on revoked license and 650 citations were issued for seat belt violations.

Thirteen juveniles were given a citation for drinking under age and 27 underage drinkers were arrested.

A total of 82 were arrested for misdemeanor drug possession and 53 were arrested for felony drug possession.

The Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office in conjunction with the Tennessee Highway Patrol, held two speed saturations in Hamilton county which consisted of road patrols on Highway 27 and Interstates 75 and 24.

The Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office has experienced a decrease in the number of driving under the influence arrests during this grant period as well as a reduction in the number of crashes involving alcohol and or drugs.
